Falling in love with/in Greece

As you liked the spot about daydreaming Greece so much, here is one more, falling in love with Greece, or in Greece, or both…

Children are our future

Freya in Taverna, Skyros Island

Travelling with children to a foreign country is a major undertaking, this is a fact. Finding a hotel where children are not just allowed but are welcome is the first difficulty. Then there is the problem of keeping them interested in the museums, monuments and all the other ‘grown up stuff’.

Once this mission is accomplished there is the hard part of the day when they are tired, exhausted and hungry. Well here is where the Greek taverna comes in. This is just the place to have a nice and relaxed dinner even if you have children. Here they are king, they can be noisy, walk around, play with other children without getting told off by other guests or the waiters.

A family with 3 young ones  from Germany enjoyed the night when I took them to a little family-owned tavern in Plaka so much that they asked the owner how he could cope with all these children hopping on and off their chairs.

His answer was just as philosophical as the whole surrounding:

Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. Socrates Greek Philosopher 469 BC- 399 BC

“Children will be children” he added and as long as they have a great time with their parents enjoying a family meal they will always come back..” Come back where? my friend asked?  “Well he said, to my tavern and to their parents of course…”
